The Road

The Road, RTomens, 2016

..........the road went 'round 'n' 'round endlessly. Finally I asked who was driving. He said "Aren't you?" I wasn't. Who was? We were destined to crash at some point, surely. The Driver (but who?) would grow tired. We would survive the crash, dust ourselves down and carry on until the road straightened out and took us somewhere, the only place it could lead, The End of the Road. I learnt to relax more and enjoy the journey, despite not knowing who, exactly, was in control. In the rear-view mirror I saw my past rolling out of sight; ahead, only the road to the oncoming horizon on which appeared visions of what I hoped would be there........
