Fashion: What will the 80s hold?

A budding fashion designer (?) got this for Christmas, 1979. I wonder if he lived up to expectations as far as 'making' the 80s look? If so, he has a lot to answer for as far as I'm concerned. The 80s 'look' was mostly bloody awful!
