Your situation, Tomens, is that you almost regret posting a load of nonsense about music in your last missive to the wide world - yes! There's a great deal of amazing contemporary music IF YOU BOTHERED TO LOOK FOR IT!!!
So I spent the following hour exploring albums reviewed on The Quietus and found...nothing much to get excited about - BUT THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM! - YOU'RE JADED!
Listen you, I'll never be jaded about music...I'm beyond jaded! I'm just unimpressed!
Whilst getting ready to say all this...actually a few lines in, this came on my system...
...it gave the impression that John Coltrane could blow away almost everyone and everything - ha-ha! Chalk and cheese - Kraftwerk and Koltrane - you can't compare them, only as artists on a (crowded) mountain top looking down on all the poor souls not destined for greatness. A hierarchy? Of sorts - but don't get the impression I place...what? Skill? Creativity? Imagination? Above all else, automatically, for some of us aren't destined, never in a million years, to sit on that peak.
Even I, with my amateur image-making, would not bow before Paolozzi, for instance, not literally, should I have met him. I bow to him figuratively...mentally...and all I can hope to do is make pictures which, whilst referencing 'the greats', are worthwhile, valid, in a modest way. Regarding my modest efforts, I understand that viewers might regard them in the same way they do a Punk single by an obscure band who sold few records and remain obscure, except to appear on the kind of compilation which specialises in digging deep for cheap thrills.
I know my place!
