Print/Collage: Attrition / Holiday / Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Attrition, RTomens, 2019

Met a staunch Remainer (add to dictionary) whilst on holiday in Devon last week. Having put forth his economic argument for the UK staying in the E.U. he proceeded to promise that should him and his two brothers be locked in a room with Tory Brexiteers (add to dictionary) he knew who would be left standing (grin). And we thought only Brexiteers were supposed to be 'thugs', 'idiots' etc...

Entertainment is cheap in Paignton. We bought two whiskies and a mixer for £5. Yes, you read that right. And enjoyed them whilst whilst Northern Soul devotees dance the night away in the local pub.

Equally cheap was the cinema at £4.99 a ticket, all day, any day. At that price, we couldn't resist seeing Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.  I blow hot and cold over Tarantino. Not so hot in recent years but since this garnered unanimous rave reviews. It is enjoyable, but at times felt like a Tarantino parody (too much soundtrack to driving around). Good joke regarding the director's insistence that Rick Dalton wears clothes that a 'more hippy' in his latest Western. I wish he hadn't thrown the metaphorical editing scissors out the window though; some of the fictional film sections were way too long. It's strongest point was the multi-layering of fictitious film over the underlying factual horror of the duo's date with actual history.
