Wagner Was...A Punk Rocker?





Reading I Am Dynamite!: A Life of Friedrich Nietzsche by Sue Prideaux yesterday, I came to this passage...


Now in the style of The Ramones' 'Sheena Is' singalong: "Wagner was a Punk Rocker, Wagner was etc". This quote blew me away. "Now go away and do it yourself"? Demolish the theatre? Burn the score? Hardcore! I instantly thought of this famous graphic from Sideburns magazine, 1977 (often wrongly attributed to Sniffin' Glue)...

Wagner knew a thing or two about chords, his most famous being what's since been dubbed The Tristan Chord...



So come on, kids, all you need is to write an opera, get a 100-piece orchestra together and find a venue big enough. Call it The Nose Ring Cycle, perhaps.
