If I rarely promote other people's work, living people, that is, rather than Dead Famous Artists or Famous Dead Artists, it's not because there aren't good ones around working at the coal face of concrete poetry or vispo; just that most exist on the margins of the margin or, as the Mingus autobiography states, 'beneath the underdog'.
We (and I'm firmly amongst them) content ourselves with exhibiting in the gallery without walls (internet) and as such rarely translate the work into printed matter as books or stand alone prints. After all, the market for such things is small, to say the least.
Anyway, I was sent Whistle and it's well worth purchasing from here, should you feel so extravagant. Kristine is a poet and asemic artist, whilst De Villo also works in the concrete poet/asemics/collage fields and is a solid promoter of works by others at his blog, Asemic Front 2. Kristine's blog is here.
This collaboration is a joyful mix of collage, asemics, vispo and concrete, playing fast and loose, expressionistic, outsider-ish expressions of both characters, interacting, imposing on one another and, it looks like, having a great time doing so. The geometric meets splashes of colourful mark-making, collaged figures stand amongst a riot of paint and, overall, the images flow beautifully to form a holistic set of impressions. A great book!
