Vispo: If Only...

RTomens, 2021

Created on The Beast (Imperial 66) this morning. After the carbon mark was made I ran some letters along it with no clue what to do next, then thinking of the dots in straight lines leading towards them and...what to do with all that space on the 'other side'? Jumbled mass? Regular grid lines? Minimal free-form letters? I went with the five-line diagonal sprouting outwards from the top, then smaller variations working down the page and angled lines connecting them, then the circles (sideways os, which were intended to be a rectangular block but after a few lines they started shortening by one each line as if wanting to taper by themselves). The text is from Sartre's The Age of Reason. You could say that part of If Only... represents regular, linear time (steady pace, everyday), whilst the other is time as irregular fast/slow according to activity/boredom.
