Mixed media collage: FUBAR / Wading in The Shallows

RTomens, 2021

It's a war, I tell you - a battlefield - in your brain too - and the...environment it engages with...like the internet - although, I believe, some people gaily scroll as if it's second nature, which it is because they grew up scrolling and surf easily whereas I of an older generation sometimes feel...as if the age of pre-PC still lingers, more than that, calls? And also exerts a certain...pull..."Come b-a-a-a-ck!" it whispers. "To an age when you were not dependent on the screen." Then I slap 'it' in the face and state that without the internet I would have nowhere to show my art or make new 'friends' (virtual spectres anyhow). Yesterday, along with the Panther PKD, I bought Nicholas Carr's The Shallows. Perhaps it will alter the way I think about the internet. Then again, perhaps I won't be able to concentrate for long enough to read it because of what the internet has done to my brain...
