I'm quite satisfied with the way I performed, actually. I mean, some days the image-making goes better than others.
I also performed well this morning, managing to fit in a bath and shopping at Aldi, all before 9.30! Whilst I explore idea of mechanics and the human form in collage, the Aldi experience was an example of man and machine in near-perfect harmony. To be honest, I was being ordered by the check-out machine-woman to 'swipe the next item' - OK! I was going as fast as I could. 'Swipe the next item' - yes, all right! 'Swipe the next item' - I nearly swiped 'her' but had to admit to myself that without her insistence that I keep swiping at such speed I might not have got home so early.
The soundtrack to making Performance Test was Autechre. I didn't feel it had to be, but once their biomechanoid tricky-time electronica started up it fitted what I was doing perfectly. I hadn't played them for some time but thought how special they were/are. No-one comes close, mainly because they carved out a sound of their own, whilst sprinkling it with seemingly endless influences, none of which are allowed to dominate. In decades to come, Autechre will appear as timeless as all great electronic music by the early pioneers. I think.
