'But I've no wish to be part of the Fine Art world, nor do I stand much chance', I said. It's not an overriding desire, thankfully, otherwise, like many artists, I would spend a lot of time feeling frustrated and disappointed - that yearning to be accepted - by whom? Them, the Fine Art people.
Apply some paint! There's a good rule for would-be Fine Artists tempted to simply draw or print. Better on canvas than paper. The rules, unwritten....
The more time passes the greater the gap between me and the Fine Art world grows...it's a chasm! 300ft wide, 600 feet deep! It can't be any other way. I'm not trying to be in a gallery...I'm not looking for an agent...I'm not even working on canvas!
Tragically (ha-ha), my failure to act as a Fine artist means I will not be taken seriously. By whom? Those who, sometimes unknowingly, only truly respect Fine Art. They may not be capable critics or historically knowledgeable but they know 'real' art when they see it! I don't mind. I'm not offering myself up as a seer, a visual visionary, a craftsman...whatever.
I do what I do for myself but of course it's good to be appreciated.
