Having some fun with Beverley Hare's Be Assertive book, a recent charity shop purchase because I knew I'd be able to use the pages; not in the way she intended, of course. Still, since it's new in The Cave it sits face up and I keep seeing the title so perhaps, subconsciously, it is influencing me to be assertive. Putting the new letter stamp kit to use.
I never knew that Agatha Christie was a science-fiction writer until this morning, when I saw a couple of her novels in the sci-fi section of the Kentish Town Oxfam shop. Fact. There too was Ian Rankin and John le Carré! Talk about 'can't get the staff'. I pointed them out to the assistant, who knows me, and cracked a few jokes. She laughed too as I pointed out several other crime books in amongst the sci-fi. So her and another assistant began taking them out. He went and got some actual sci-fi to put in their place. I was standing nearby, spotting this in the pile he was holding...
...lucky me! I've just started out on a mission to collect classic David Pelham covers. So thanks to the new volunteer in the shop yesterday who put crime novels on the sci-fi shelves. Their mistake was my good fortune.
