Is there a natural social order, even amongst humans? No. Next question!
We watch the woodpigeons on the lawn, fighting over food provided for them. A pecking order probably exists. They're always pecking at each other anyway.
The pecking order amongst artists: there are those who are very ambitious, who would peck your eyes out in a battle to be shown in one gallery. Others would see such a scrap as undignified and give way. Others still wouldn't even compete.
Perhaps I am naturally 'perverse' in my lack of ambition. Or plain lazy. Then again, there is no 'top' or 'bottom' in the art world. Most of us aren't even part of the Art World. Hierarchy has no place in Art, despite it's existence in the Art World (presumably some are a lot 'hotter' than others with each passing year). I am not, however, part of that rare (?) breed of sub-underground dwellers for whom the simple act of showing their Art would be a sell-out! That's one sure way of avoiding any kind of critical reaction - ha-ha!
I'm pleased to say that my art will be shown at this year's Ljubljana Jazz Festival as part of a project I was invited to take part in. More on that when it happens and photos, of course.
